The Chakras

The chakras are the energy centers of the body. Originating from Sanskrit, it literally means “wheel” named because of it’s depiction as a vortex of spinning energy interacting with the physiological and neurological systems in the body. We have 7 chakras, each one governing a different aspect of your well being and energy field. Each chakra has it’s own vibrational frequency corresponding to various body parts, colors, crystals, oils, activities, thoughts, meditations, etc. Balancing the chakras heals mental, physical, emotional and spiritual ailments. There are certain physical and emotional indicators when a chakra is unbalanced, indicating which you may need to heal.

Chakra healing is something I have practiced diligently, as it is one of the most healing processes you could do for yourself. I am the healthiest I have ever been since discovering this type of healing work. If you have been going to a doctor but can’t seem to get rid of that affliction, chakra balancing can have seemingly miraculous results. If you have been seeing a therapist and still feel like your are missing some part of your evolution, it’s likely you need some chakras aligned. It’s also essential to do frequent chakra balancing, to ensure your energy body and spiritual body are always in tip top shape. We work in various ways to shift and clear your energy field, healing old wounds that are trapped in your chakra body.

Root Chakra 

  • Regulates: Survival, protection, trust, security, basic needs (money, food, shelter), instincts, family/ancestral ties, early memories
  • Lesson it teaches: Self-preservation
  • Location: Base of spine
  • Color: Red (brown, black, gray)
  • Sense: Smell
  • Element: Earth
  • When balanced you feel: Safe, fearless, supported, sense of connection/safety to world, grounded
  • When overactive you feel: Fearful, nervous, insecure, ungrounded, materialistic or greedy, resistant to change
  • When underactive you feel: Lacking a sense of being at home or secure anywhere, codependent, unable to get into one’s body, fearful of abandonment, fear of inability to provide necessities
  • Body association: Adrenal glands, spine, blood, reproductive organs, legs, feet, immune system
  • Physical symptoms of imbalance: Inability to sit still, restlessness, unhealthy weight, constipation, cramps, fatigue or sluggishness
  • Healing: Stomp your bare feet on ground, red foods, vegetables from the ground, animal proteins, nature, physical activities, aromatherapy, dancing, visualize red, focus on necessities (set up savings plan, etc.)

Sacral Chakra 

  • Regulates: Sexuality, creativity, sense of abundance, well-being, pleasure, acceptance of change

  • Location: Lower abdomen (below navel)

  • Element: Water
  • When balanced you feel: Creative, passionate, sexual, ability to take risks and be committed, accept new relationships/situations
  • When overactive you feel: Overemotional, very quick to attach and invest in others, attracted to drama, moody, lacking personal boundaries
  • When underactive you feel: Stiff, unemotional, closed off to others, lacking self-esteem or self-worth, possibly in an abusive relationship, fear of impotence, fear of betrayal, addictions
  • Body association: Kidneys, reproductive organs (ovaries, testes, and uterus), urinary system, hips, pelvis, lower back
  • Physical symptoms of imbalance: Lower-back pain or stiffness, urinary issues, kidney pain or infection, infertility, impotence
  • Healing: Pelvic thrusts, orange foods, nuts, physical activities, aquatic activities (swimming, baths), self-care, romance/sexual pleasure, celebrate achievements, visualize orange

Solar Plexus Chakra 

  • Regulates: Power, wisdom, self-worth, self-confidence, self-esteem, control, change
  • Lesson it teaches: Self-acceptance
  • Location: Upper abdomen (stomach)
  • Color: Yellow
  • Sense: Sight
  • Element: Fire
  • When balanced you feel: Self-respect and self-compassion, control, assertive and confident
  • When overactive you feel: Domineering, aggressive, angry, perfectionistic or overly critical of oneself or others
  • When underactive you feel: Passive, indecisive, timid, lacking self-control, fear of rejection/criticism
  • Body association: Central nervous system, digestive system (stomach and intestines), liver, pancreas, metabolic system, blood pressure, colon
  • Physical symptoms of imbalance: Ulcers, gas, nausea, or other digestive problems; eating disorders; asthma or other respiratory ailments; nerve pain or fibromyalgia; infection in the liver or kidneys; other organ problems
  • Healing: Dancing, yellow foods, grains and fiber, peppermint and chamomile tea, visual therapy, sun, fire breath, spend time with loving/appreciative people, positive self-talk, visualize yellow

Heart Chakra

  • When balanced you feel: Joy, gratitude, love, compassion, forgive freely, trusting
  • When overactive you feel: Loving in a clingy/suffocating way, lacking a sense of self in a relationship, willing to say yes to everything, lacking boundaries, letting everyone in
  • When underactive you feel: Cold, distant, lonely, unable or unwilling to open up to others, grudgeful
  • Body association: Thymus gland and immune system, heart, lungs, breasts, arms, hands, upper back/shoulders
  • Physical symptoms of imbalance: Heart and circulatory problems (high blood pressure, heart palpitations, heart attack), poor circulation or numbness, asthma or other respiratory ailments, breast issues, stiff joints or joint problems in the hands
  • Healing: bikram yoga, love, green foods, green tea, touch, breath work, do things you love, listen/speak with open heart, generosity, follow dreams/desires, visualize green

Throat Chakra 

  • Regulates: Communication, self-expression (of feelings), speaking truth, holding secrets
  • Lesson it teaches: Speak up and let your voice be heard

  • Sense: Hearing

  • When balanced you feel: Free flowing words/expression/communication, honest, truthful, firm, good listener
  • When overactive you feel: Overly talkative, unable to listen, highly critical, verbally abusive, condescending
  • When underactive you feel: Introverted, shy, having difficulty speaking the truth, unable to express needs, fear of no power
  • Body association: Thyroid, neck, throat, shoulders, ears, and mouth
  • Physical symptoms of imbalance: Stiffness or soreness in the neck or shoulders, sore throat, hoarseness or laryngitis, earaches or infection, dental issues, thyroid issues
  • Healing: Singing, chanting, juices, teas, fruits, sound healing, mantras, be open and honest, say “no” kindly but firmly, shine love of difficult authority figures, visualize blue

  • When balanced you feel: Clear, focused, can determine between truth and illusion, open to receiving wisdom
  • When overactive you feel: Out of touch with reality, lacking good judgment, unable to focus, prone to hallucinations
  • When underactive you feel: Rigid thinking, closed-minded, too reliant on authority, disconnected/distrustful of inner voice, anxious, clinging to the past and fearful of the future, lack of self-reflection
  • Body association: Pituitary, eyes, brow, base of skull, biorhythms

  • Element: Unrelated to sensory world
  • When balanced you feel: Mindful, living in the present moment, trusting in your inner guidance
  • When overactive you feel: Addicted to spirituality, heedless of bodily needs, having difficulty controlling emotions
  • When underactive you feel: Not very open to spirituality, unable to set or maintain goals, lacking direction, fear of alienation
  • Body association: Pituitary and pineal glands, brain, hypothalamus, cerebral cortex, central nervous system
  • Physical symptoms of imabalance: Dizziness, confusion, mental fog, neurological disorders, nerve pain, schizophrenia or other mental disorders, depression, sensitive senses
